After a sensational return to racing, Lubrication has sent a clear message that he is ready to continue his upward trajectory as he prepares for the Group Three George Moore Stakes at Doomben this Saturday. The gelding’s first run back on the track has generated excitement among trainers, punters, and racing fans alike, signalling that he is in top form and poised for another standout performance.
Earlier this year, Lubrication made a striking statement in the racing world when he captured the $1 million The Archer (1300m) at Rockhampton in May. His victory was particularly notable as he defeated the now-prominent Group 1 winner, Transatlantic, showcasing both speed and determination over the challenging distance. The win established Lubrication as a horse to watch and provided his connections with a glimpse of his immense potential.
While The Archer remains a key target later in the season, trainer Matt Dunn is currently focused on preparing Lubrication for the George Moore Stakes (1200m), where the gelding will be aiming for his first black-type victory. The 1200-metre race at Doomben is known for its competitive field, and this year is no exception. Topweight Caballus and reigning champion Hidden Wealth are among the formidable opponents Lubrication will face, making his task a challenging one.
Despite the stiff competition, Dunn has drawn considerable confidence from Lubrication’s impressive first-up run over the same track and distance on November 15. On that occasion, the gelding narrowly missed out on victory, finishing just behind Caspernova. His performance demonstrated not only his ability to handle the course but also his readiness to take on higher-calibre races in the immediate future.
“He really stepped up last prep and I think he’s come back a bit better,” Dunn said.
“He has never run as well as that first-up in his life. He’d had five first-up goes and run third once.
“He had to go all the way back from a crumby gate and he finished his race off really well. He just missed the bob.
“He’s going great, and I think he’ll be very competitive on Saturday.”
Lubrication’s record at Doomben over 1200 metres further reinforces his prospects in the George Moore Stakes. With two wins and three placings from eight starts at this distance, the gelding has proven his ability to perform consistently at the venue. His familiarity with the track and proven track record provide a solid foundation for his connections to be optimistic about his chances this weekend.
In addition to the race itself, there is growing anticipation among racing enthusiasts and punters who are keen to compare George Moore Stakes odds at Australia’s top betting sites. Lubrication’s performance will undoubtedly attract significant attention, with bettors closely monitoring his form, track record, and competition to make informed wagers.
Looking further ahead, Dunn is optimistic that Lubrication can play a pivotal role throughout the summer racing season, with the potential to defend his title in The Archer. “Things need to fall into place in terms of the timing of his prep but certainly, he’s got a slot and if it fits in well we’ll be going there again for sure,” Dunn said.
Lubrication’s resurgence this season highlights not only his physical capability but also his mental readiness to compete at the highest levels. A horse that has demonstrated resilience, speed, and adaptability, Lubrication has all the ingredients required to excel in Group-level races. His connections will be hoping that his proven track record at Doomben, combined with his current form, will allow him to claim his first black-type victory in the George Moore Stakes and set the stage for an exciting summer campaign.
With a combination of past achievements, current fitness, and a competitive edge, Lubrication is shaping up as one of the standout contenders in Saturday’s race. Racing fans and punters alike will be watching closely as he seeks to build on his impressive first-up run, test himself against top competition, and possibly secure his place among the elite performers in Australian racing.
The George Moore Stakes promises to deliver an exciting spectacle, and Lubrication’s participation adds an extra layer of intrigue. His proven ability to finish strong, coupled with his growing confidence, suggests that he could make a significant impact. As the field lines up this weekend, all eyes will be on the gelding as he looks to translate his promising comeback into another memorable performance.
